Obituary of David Michael Hurd
David Michael Hurd
David Michael Hurd, age 40, a beloved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend, a lifelong resident of Crest Hill and Joliet, was taken from us too soon on Thursday, October 10, 2024. He was born on October 13, 1983, at the old Silver Cross Hospital, cradled in the love of his parents, Karen (Waliczek) and David E. Hurd. A proud graduate of Holy Family Grade School, David held dear the memories of being part of the last class at Larkin Avenue Parish, where his roots took hold. He continued flourishing through his education, graduating in 2002 from Lockport Township High School. His journey carried him to Collins College in Tempe, AZ, where his artistic spirit ignited in the realms of graphic design and animation. He ultimately earned a Bachelor's Degree in multimedia applications from Westwood College in Woodridge, IL.
David's spirit lives on through his devoted parents, Dave and Karen Hurd; his loving sister and brother-in-law, Karie and Steve Drabik; and his cherished girlfriend, Cheryl Baranski. He was an adoring fun uncle to his sweet nieces, Ava and Isabella; a beloved nephew to several aunts and uncles; he also leaves behind many cousins; and the loyal companionship of his pet cat, "Rocky," who will miss his gentle presence. All who knew and loved David will carry fond memories of him in their hearts forever.
David was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Chuck and Carol (Waliczek) Galena, Raymond Waliczek, Carol Hurd, Robert and MaryAnn Hurd, and John and Madeline Marello, who now embrace him in eternal peace.
With a heart dedicated to serving others, David found fulfillment in a career in educational IT support, where his kindness shone bright. His passion for biking, the great outdoors, and the boundless world of creativity brought him immense joy, yet nothing rivaled his unwavering love for his family and making others laugh. David's laugh, smile, and kind loving heart could light up a room. His quick wit, funny sense of humor, and easy-going demeanor will leave lasting impacts in all who loved him.
In accordance with David's wishes, he will be cremated, allowing his spirit to soar free. Join us in honoring his life on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) in Joliet, where we will gather to celebrate his kind and loving soul.
All friends and relatives are warmly invited to unite in remembrance on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 9:45 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago Street in Joliet. Together, we will celebrate David's Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM.
