David Lee Jones, 91 years, of LaSalle, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in his home.
Born September 19, 1932 in Monroe, David was the son of the late Daniel H. and Leanora (Bayse) Jones. He was a 1950 graduate of Monroe High School. David served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army from April 25, 1955 to April 4, 1957. He was stationed in Bamburg, Germany and served as a Tank Gunner. He received the Good Conduct Medal.
David married the former, Martha E. Holsinger, in Monroe. He then married the former, Betty R. (Thomas) Stanfill. Sadly, Betty passed away on January 21, 2002. David then began dating his longtime companion Judith A. (Newberry) Atwood. David and Judie were inseparable until her death on January 4, 2022.
David began working for his father at Monroe Welding and Engineering. He then went to work at Ford Motor Company's Monroe Plant where he worked for 30 years, retiring as an Engineer in 1981. David liked to keep busy so after retiring from Ford Motor Company, went to work as a charter boat captain for Trade Winds Charter at Bolles Harbor, running the morning charters for 20 years. He also owned and operated his own excavating company.
Along with his father and two brothers, David became a volunteer firefighter for the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department, taking part in putting out the historic fire at Harry May Chevrolet. A Mason, he was a member of the Monroe Lodge #27 F&AM, and the Monroe Center for Healthy Aging. David enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards and bowling. As a young man he was a pin setter at the Bowl O Drome. Most of all David enjoyed time spent with family.
David is survived by four loving children: Debra L. (Joseph) Ceci of S. Rockwood, Scott E. (Dawn) Stanfill of Petersburg, Steve C. (Yvonne) Stanfill of Monroe and Janet M. Frazier of Trenton, 15 treasured grandchildren and 26 cherished great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Betty and longtime companion Judie, David was preceded in death by two sons: David A.
