Eva Mae Knox
December 21, 1928 - October 13, 2025
Eva Mae Knox, a cherished member of the Monroe community, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on December 21, 1928, in Carrollton, Kentucky, she lived a life filled with dedication, love, and service to others.
Eva began her career at the Joyce Shoe Company in Madison, Indiana, where she demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. She later found her true calling as a Nurse Aide in the obstetrics unit at Mercy Memorial Hospital, where she served with compassion and care for over 20 years, retiring in 1987.
Her passions extended beyond her professional life. Eva was an avid gardener, renowned for her beautiful roses and meticulous care of her lawn, which she continued to mow well after her 95th birthday. She was also a skilled cook and took great pride in canning. In her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling, participating in the Mercy Memorial Hospital Bowling League for several years, and was known for her skill in the sport. A devout reader of the Bible, Eva found solace and inspiration in its pages. She also loved traveling across the country with the Frenchtown Senior Center and cherished friends Arvil and Ruth Fields, and Jack and Oma Yeary.
Eva was a past member of the Moose Lodge and a devoted member and greeter at Stewart Road Church of God since 1971, where she formed many lasting friendships and contributed to the community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Sherley and Bessie (Graves) Banks, her devoted husband, Allen F. Knox, who passed on August 25, 2004, her son, Larry A. Knox, in 1946, and her granddaughter, Onnalee.
Eva is survived by her loving sons, Robert (Sharon) Knox and Gary (Nancy) Knox, both of Monroe; her nine brothers: Calvin, Howard, Leonard, Russell, Kenny, Donald, Donnelly, Turk, and C.W.; four grandchildren: Emma Lynn, Eric Wayne, Robert Seth Christian, and Shawn Joshua Zane; and six great-grandchildren: Nora Lynn, Eva, Greyson, Makenzie, Everett and Leif.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Eva's life at a visitation on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161, from 10:00 a.m. until the services celebrating her life begin at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Sally Martin will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Memorial contributions in Eva's memory are suggested to Stewart Road Church of God, reflecting her lifelong dedication to her faith and community.
Eva will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
