David Dale Kage, 89, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024. Born on June 20, 1935, in Troy, Michigan, he was a lifelong resident and the son of William and Kathryn (VanGordon) Kage. David was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A graduate of Clawson High School, Class of 1953, David soon joined the Navy, where he met his wife, Kyoko while serving in Japan. They married and moved to the United States. After leaving the Navy, he became a journeyman carpenter and joined his brother Lee, working at Sebold and Kage and other construction contractors until retirement.
David was a devoted father and attended every one of his children's events from band concerts and dance recitals to football and soccer games. Ever the weekend cook, he loved to make chili and always made breakfast for the family.
He loved watching sports and talking about the Spartans and Lions. After retirement, he used his construction skills to help in updating his daughters' homes, helping to replace roofs and build decks and teaching the family home improvement skills. In later years he loved playing dominoes, pinochle and scrabble with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
David is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kyoko; daughters Michiko (Doug) and Karyn (Don); son Jonathan (Melissa); grandchildren Natasha (Shane), Chareen, Samantha (Casey), Kirsten (Gic), Alec, Austin, and Kaitlyn; and great-grandchildren Stella and Jameson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lee, and sisters Shirley and Marilyn, and is survived by his brother Tony.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Hospice foundation, in honor of David Kage.
