David Laurence Lang, (Langer), age 68 of Crystal Lake IL, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Northwestern Medicine in McHenry, IL. He was born on October 16, 1955 to Laurence and Florine (Dolly) Lang in Waukegan, IL. He was a graduate of Waukegan High School class of 1973 and attended College at West Palm Beach Jr College and the University of New Orleans where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and later earned his Master's Degree. He met Judy Tock in 1981 and after a short engagement they married October 16, 1982.
Dave's teaching career in special education began at Waukegan High School. He finished his career at Grant High School in Fox Lake, IL and retired in 2011 after over 30 years of teaching. During his career, Dave was also very involved with coaching various sports. He was the assignment chairman for the Northern Officials Association of Lake County for many years.
Dave had many passions in life, but the one he is most known for is his love for baseball. He played 3rd base for various teams throughout his life including the 1972 all-star Colt team that went to the Florida World Championship. He earned full scholarships to college for baseball and in 1972 he received an invitation to try out for the Baltimore Orioles.
He loved fishing so much that in college, he earned the nickname of "Muskie". He enjoyed spending time with family and fishing at his cabin on Lake Mason in Wisconsin. Dave loved music of all kinds, especially funk and R&B. He was well known at many local watering holes and had a sense of humor and spirit larger than life. Dave was always willing to lend a helping hand, even if you were a stranger. Throughout his life, he perfected his ability to find a "good deal".
None of this compares to his strong love and dedication toward his family. He was an extremely selfless, caring and loving husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Dave's memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Dave is survived by his wife: Judy Lang; his children: Crystal (Nik) Click, Keith Lang, Robert (Cathy) Tock and Randall Tock; his grandchildren: Kallen, Cadence, Adelaide and Emelia Click, Cassidy, Kara and Damian Lang, Andrew Tock and Michael Tock; his great-grandson: Bennett Tock; his sister: Debi (Lance) Johnson; his nephews: Aaron Milks, Ryan, Steven and Brett Johnson; his aunt: Linda (Tom) Mcelhinny; and numerous loved cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Laurence and Florine Lang; and his grandparents: Vernon and Annabelle Pastell, Agnes (Milt) Smith and Robert Lang.
Friends may greet the family on Sunday, May 19th, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, Illinois 60050. A time to share memories of Dave will start at 5:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private for the family.

Gary Petric and I, being North Chicago guys, initially played against Dave in Colt League baseball around Lake County. We then got to know Dave and the rest of the "boys" during our 1972 run to the Colt League World Series in Tampa FL. One of the best team experiences I ever had. Just wonderful days and memories. Dave was one of a kind and one that you would never forget. Tough competitor, great teammate and funny as hell. My sincere condolences to his family. RIP my friend.

Coached David in Colt Legue baseball in the 1970's. He had a great passion for baseball. He is gone way to soon but I am sure the Lord has him fielding ground balls at 3rd base. Prayers to all of Dave's family.

I sure had some great times with Langer at various "deals" around Lake and McHenry counties. We had some great times at the Fox Lake American Legion, the Squaw Bar in Ingleside and Mary's Hideaway in Johnsburg.

Plus, we could talk music, especially anything from New Orleans and, of course, baseball.

i remember Dave and Jack Kash coming to my parents house to visit as i was recouping from appendix surgery. any abdominal pressure hurt like crazy and Dave and Jack had me laughing like crazy. together they were a riot(Frankie!!). i remember the first time i heard him play piano(at the bottom of the stairs). he was amazing. or throwing his shockproof watch up into the air as high as he could. it landed on the street and shattered. 'Sack, it's not shockproof.' there are many more. he was a great friend an a genuinely unique human being. love ya Langer!!! Rest in peace!!

I am so sorry and shocked to hear of Dave´s passing. Old buddy I knew you since we were ten years old playing baseball in peanut league. We grew up playing ball for the next ten years. But the thing I will remember most were how loyal of a friend you were. When I finished grad school and came home to work you offered up your house for me to rent. And after Sharon and I were married you made sure to call when we were looking for a place to live and the house next door was available. You did everything you could to make it happen. It did and we loved it. That´s why we were both best men in each others weddings. My friend, I´m heartbroken for losing you. Rest in peace buddy.
