In Loving Memory of David D. Leahy
April 18, 1937 – July 29, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Leahy on July 29th. Born on April 18, 1937, David was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend.
David grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts, graduated from Hingham High School and then attended College of the Holy Cross. Following his time at Holy Cross, David proudly served his country in both the US Army and the Marine Corps. He spent his career in the New England radio and television industry.
For over 50 years, David was the devoted husband of Jean Leahy. Together, they created a loving and supportive family living in Marshfield with the last 25 years on the ocean in Ocean Bluff. He is survived by his three sons: David, who lives in Australia with his wife Allison; Kevin and his wife Tracy of Connecticut; and Tim and his wife Eileen of New Jersey. David was a proud grandfather to five wonderful grandchildren: Ryan, Kaitlyn, Rowan, Dorothy and Owen who brought immense joy to his life.
David is also remembered by his siblings Martha, Lawrence, John, and Mark.
A proud Irishman, David seemingly always got the joke, and his dry wit brought smiles to those around him. His humor was matched only by his passion for Boston sports and his voracious reading appetite. He could also be found navigating the fairways, roughs and woods of the finest municipal golf courses around. He enjoyed golf so much that he worked as a starter for much of his retirement at Green Harbor Golf Club.
Family and friends are welcome to join the family for an hour of visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 9 at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A service to honor David's life will follow at Saint Ann by the Sea Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, online at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
Rest in peace, David. You will be forever missed and always remembered.
