David Francis "Lib" Liberty, 72, of
South Hero, Vermont, peacefully passed away on January 24, 2026, embraced tenderly in the loving arms of his wife, Barbara, and his daughter, Francine.
Born on October 2, 1953, in
Burlington, Vermont, David was the cherished son of Evelyn Santor Liberty and Edward Liberty. Raised in Burlington, he graduated from BHS in 1975 and devoted 36 years of heartfelt service to the University of Vermont Medical Center. Among his many meaningful contributions to this organization, he took special pride in helping to create and manage the hospital's recycling center. This work reflected his dedication, kindness, and genuine desire to make a positive impact in healthcare. David was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #91 in Colchester, Vermont, and an upstanding member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #793.
David's heart found its greatest joy in being fully present for the moments that mattered most to his family. Nothing brought him more happiness than watching his grandchildren play the sports they loved-whether bundled warmly at a crisp spring tee-ball or lacrosse game, cheering enthusiastically at a basketball tournament in Rhode Island, applauding gracefully at a dance competition in New Hampshire, or celebrating a touchdown in St. Albans. One of his proudest and most treasured memories was just last year, when his granddaughter Brooklynn's Little League team won the State Championship and advanced to the Little League World Series in Bristol, Connecticut. David was their biggest fan, their loudest cheerleader, and their unwavering source of encouragement.
He also found joy in life's simple pleasures: tropical vacations, the family's beloved summer week on the coast of Maine, peaceful fishing trips with his dear friend Jude, and relaxing moments spent by the pool. He delighted in traveling between the warmth of Florida and the comforting embrace of camp in Vermont, finding happiness and peace in both places.
During Vermont's winter days, he enjoyed hunting with his close-knit "crew," snowmobiling with friends, and watching NASCAR or college basketball on TV. One of his most thrilling adventures was in 1998, when he attended the Daytona 500 with his wonderful friend Ronnie Shappy. A devoted Earnhardt fan, witnessing that victory was a cherished highlight of his life.
David's life was deeply rooted in love. He had a strong and wonderful love for his family, his friends, and the many lives he touched along the way. On September 24, 1988, he married the love of his life, Barbara, and together they built a beautiful, blended family filled with laughter, devotion, and heartfelt connection. He was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
David leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren:
Francine Bevins, husband Corey, and children Abigail, Brooklynn, and Hayley
Robb Hamilton, fiancée Allyssa, and children Michael, Addison, Bentley, Khialyn, Kholden, and Brixton
Amy Hamilton Liberty, and children Skyler (fiancée Sara), Marissa (husband Timothy and daughter Ava Jane)
Julie Conner Charlton, husband William, and children Conner, Joseph (wife Vanessa and son Beckett), Caitlin (fiancée Ryley), and Elaina
He is lovingly survived by his siblings and their families-Veronica Brigham, Carlene Deguise, Butch Liberty, Paul Liberty, and Ann Chicoine-along with many cherished nieces and nephews who each held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his dear sisters in law and their families, Lori Delphia, Pamela Conner, and Wendy Drinkwater, whose steady love and support were a meaningful part of his life.
David is now peacefully reunited with his parents and siblings, Leon (Skinhead) Liberty, Robert Liberty, Sandra Bushell, Theresa Bogue, and Barbara Bara.
Honoring David's wishes, there will be no formal services. A celebration of his life will be held later this spring, when family and friends can come together to remember the warmth, humor, and boundless love he shared so generously.
