David J. Lindsay, Sr. passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at home and with his loving family.
He grew up in Danvers, MA, attended Danvers High School and was the oldest son of Chester Lindsay and Mathilda (Johnson) Lindsay. He graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA with a BS in Mathematics, earned an MA in Education from Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA and did further post graduate study at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA.
David (called Dave by most) enjoyed a long and rewarding 37-year career as a math teacher at Beverly High School, teaching many courses including his favorite, AP Calculus, a course that he introduced at BHS. He was a respected educator, known for his commitment to students, his love for mathematics and a tireless work ethic. His students rewarded him for decades with their excellence and appreciation. In his retirement, he also enjoyed working at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA.
Dave met Suzana (Urner) Lindsay, truly a constant source of love, sunshine, and companionship, at ENC and they married soon after. Dave and Sue enjoyed 62 years together. Their love and loyalty served as a powerful example to their children and grandchildren. He was a dedicated and esteemed father, grandfather, son, and friend. His footprints were left in places he valued most; the church, the great outdoors, summer camps, the classroom, and the family dinner table. He gave his children the gift of time and wonderful memories playing games, walking in the woods, skimming rocks at the beach, skating at Kelleher's Pond, and later playing tennis, fishing and skiing with Lori, David Jr., and Eric respectively.
Living a life informed and inspired by his Christian faith, he was a man of authentic integrity, quiet generosity, and prayer. His faith ran deep and expressed itself in many ways; from small acts of kindness to broader efforts of service and giving, both locally and overseas. Dave also was a member of Gideons International, reflecting his passion for sharing with others the joy and hope he found in the Bible and his relationship with Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife Suzana, his three children and three grandsons: his daughter Lori and her husband Brian Murphy, his son David Lindsay Jr., his son Eric and his wife Catherine, and grandsons Jonathan, Cameron, and Ethan. He is predeceased by his brother Chester Lindsay and his sister Thelma Jones. He is predeceased by his brother Chester Lindsay and his sister Thelma Jones.
