David Paul McCord, 74, of Oklahoma City, passed away on September 25, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born on February 17, 1951, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to James and LaReta McCord.

David was the President and Owner of McCord Testing Equipment for 43 years, providing excellent service to his customers-many of whom became lifelong friends.

An outdoorsman at heart, David enjoyed fishing in the Blue River, taking camping trips with his family and morel mushroom hunting. Fascinated by history, he often regaled loved ones with stories, fun facts and cautionary tales. David was a master storyteller. He attended the University of Oklahoma and loved nothing more than cheering on the Sooners-often sitting cross-legged on the floor and pounding the ground when something exciting happened. He was perpetually 30 minutes early to every gathering. If he found a good bargain, it would likely become the topic of conversation for several days.

In his younger days, David never passed up an adventure. He once hitchhiked to-and across-Canada in his twenties, and later hiked the Grand Canyon with nothing but an orange and a Snickers bar. (He later acknowledged this was not his best idea.)

He was a devoted father ("Daddy Doo") and a father figure to many. He never hesitated to lend a hand to a friend or a stranger in need. David was an enthusiastic Grandad, Uncle Dave, father-in-law, son, and brother. He encouraged those around him with a kind word or a well-timed text message complete with a robust amount of emojis. He was a Protector, a Peacemaker and an Anchor for his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jimmy.

He is survived by his daughters, Amy McCord and Sara Thompson (and her spouse, Trait); and the mother of his children, Kelly McCord. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Cale and Lilah Joy; his longtime love and steadfast companion of 18 years, Ana Stier; his brother, Lance McCord (and wife, Joy); his brother, Steve McCord; his faithful friend and office manager, Alicia Reynolds; and a host of treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There will never be another Dave; what a gift to have known him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, at 11:00 a.m. at New Covenant Church in Edmond, OK.
