David Willis Merritt, a beloved truck driver and cherished brother, passed away on February 16, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 26, 1958, in Baytown, Texas, David was a man of many virtues, deeply respected by those who knew him.
Throughout his life, David carried a profound sense of pride in his career as a truck driver, relishing the opportunity to traverse highways and connect with fellow travelers. He was known for his sweet nature and his ability to easily forge friendships, always treating others with the kindness and respect he so valued.
David's dedication to serving his country was evident when he enlisted in the Army, where he received commendation for his honorable service. This commitment to service deeply influenced his character, shaping him into a man who prioritized the well-being of others.
He is survived by his loving sister, Susan Dunn and her husband Robert, his brother Michael Merritt and his wife Cheri, and his sister Sharon Andrews. Additionally, David leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, each of whom will forever hold fond memories of their time with him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Earl Merritt and Johnnie Mae Smith, who undoubtedly influenced his compassionate spirit. The absence of such a sweet soul will be felt profoundly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. David's legacy of kindness and friendship will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
