David Micciulla Obituary

David Micciulla
David Micciulla passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 27th, 2024. He was 69 years old.
David was born in Middletown, Connecticut to Michelina "Molly" Micciulla and Angelo Micciulla. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University, starting his career in accounting and going on to lead several successful media companies in New York City in roles from CFO to CEO. He would say however, that his greatest achievement was his children, Alissa and David Maxwell, whom he shared with Karen Micciulla from their marriage.
Though this career sent him around the world, he also cultivated his own special interest in travel and food, a passion that has been carried on by his children. He discovered a feeling of home in a multitude of places and collected innumerable friendships along the way. There was no greater feeling of home though than the one he found in Italy. The strong connection he felt to his Sicilian heritage only grew over time and served as an inspiration to him in his personal and professional pursuits. He honored the traditions that came with it, trying never to miss a traditional Sunday lunch where he shared a table with extended family.
To all, his intellect was obvious. Those closest to him also knew of his highly unique sense of humor, eclectic taste in film and music, love of race cars, expert cooking skills, mediocre surfing skills, and voracious reading. Most importantly, everyone experienced his unwavering generosity. Guided by his late mother's loving example, he strived to always help a friend or family member in need. He was a devoted father and son who dedicated his life to the happiness of his family.
Honoring David means seeking a life of connection – to where you are from, to the people you love, and to the joy you find. He tethered many lives together, all who can only strive to fill this loss through their own acts of generosity.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Molly and Angelo, and is survived by his two children, Alissa Micciulla and David Maxwell Micciulla, his sister, Lori DePietro, and his brother, Mark Micciulla.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 7th from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at D'Angelo Funeral Home in Middletown, Connecticut. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Sebastian Roman Catholic Church & Rectory in Middletown, Connecticut, followed by a burial at Saint Sebastian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Hartford Children's Hospital, a charity dear to David's heart, which he actively supported.

David, Debbie and I met 55 some years ago while swimming at Crystal Lake in Middletown. It was 1969, David and I were 14 years old and Debbie
was 15. Our lives have intertwined all of these years, sharing so many fond memories together. New York City, Mystic Bay ...where David talked me into cutting my hair to add bangs that I wear to this day:), to The Hamptons, Middletown of course, Florida, but especially Barbados. He taught me how to surf and to sail.
David was very shy when he was young but the world brought confidence and boldness into his life. He always said everything he did in his life was to hopefully make his childrens´ lives a better place. Always always talking about them and how much he loved them.
We listened to a LOT of Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, the Temptations, Stevie Nicks and then of course, Rasta music as we got older. We would lay on the floor w big speakers behind our heads and sing all the songs at the top of our lungs as they were belted out.
Molly and Angelo were always so hospitable w their home and did a good job of raising David, Mark and Lori.
When he purchased his farm it was such a lovely place. He loved how peaceful it was there. He enjoyed all of the days he was able to spend there.
We loved David our whole lives and never dreamed he would be the first of our trio to pass on from this life. I will always love and hold him dearly in my heart as well as all of us.
God Bless you to all of his friends and family and God Bless David

David loved to love life and we had fun on the sail boat in Stewart Fl. David was a good friend and a mentor in my life. I will miss our conversations about Restaurant ideas to open and Pizza and Travel. David will always have a warm place in my heart. I will see you again brother, at our Father´s Table.

To the Micciulla Family,
I am shocked and sadden to read about the passing of Dave. We went to Central together and reconnected many times over the years. Our last time was in September in Florence at his restaurant where the qualities mentioned here came through that day as he treated me and my friends like family. I will miss him and the friendship we shared. RIP my friend. You were one in a million and so blessed to have known you!

I have yet to wrap my head around this. David has been a dear friend for many years- we just texted a few weeks ago. His deep love for his family & friends is stellar. Whether it was driving the Daytona 500 or making the perfect pizza, David´s Joie de Vive transcends time & place. His spirit lives on in our hearts, as well as his love for true friendship & others. Missing you greatly, my friend. I´ll see you when I get to Heaven.

Profoundly shocked and deeply saddened to learn. Dave was the consummate professional for those of us who worked with him (the Editels in this case), and a heck of a good friend to have if you ever needed something `sorted out´. Rest easy, pal - you were one of the best.

He single-handedly gave me an opportunity for a better future.
I will always be thankful for all the thoughts he shared to me in the last few years. I wouldn´t be here if it wasn´t for him.
He will always be a mentor and a friend to me.

David and were friends for 30+years. His passion for fast cars, travel, cooking & fine wines always took a back seat to his love of family & friends. I´m grateful for having David in my life. May he rest in peace.

R.I.P. cousin.. You have lived a very rewarding life and was surprised to hear of your recent passing. You were always the one to be very giving of your time and support to family members in need. Ruth and I treasured our stay in Florence and the time we spent with you and your Dad as well as the meeting your friends and business partners in Florence .
