David Thane Muns

October 10, 1966 – January 10, 2026

David Muns passed away in his sleep unexpectedly at home January 10 at the age of 59. David was born on an American Airforce base in Landstuhl, Germany to his parents Doris and Robert Muns.

Many of you knew David because of his love for football, powerlifting, and all things that made people "bigger, faster, stronger." When David was young he still loved all of those things. He always credited his coaches with raising him to be an upstanding citizen. He attended Grand Prairie High School, Cisco Junior College, and later "the Great Midwestern State." He played football at each school and even continued past graduation in the minor leagues.

David loved his job and called it the "greatest gig on the planet." He was so proud of all of his kids in the Big Ape Family, including his biological children, Hayden and Karan. No one was prouder of their successes or "bummed" by their shortcomings. Bombing out was a horrible thing to him, but he knows that every failure was also a chance to learn and another rep under the belt. He would want all of us to continue to run our races as if he were still with us.

More than anything, David loved his wife, Monica. He normally called her, "Pretty Girl," and was certain that she was the greatest thing ever. He always had a good day whenever they were together, which was every day since 1990. She was the greatest love of his life.

David is survived by his wife, Monica Muns, his children, Hayden Muns and Karan Muns-Wehling (Alex), and his dog, Battle.

Visitation will be January 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Mound United Methodist Church. Funeral will be held January 17 at 11a.m. at Blue Mound UMC, Denton.
