Obituary of David Murphy

David Murphy, 82, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 15, 2025, in Farmingdale, New Jersey. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a true extrovert with a gift for storytelling, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and fierce loyalty.

David's greatest joy was his family. For 58 years, he was the beloved husband of Leone Murphy. Together, they raised three daughters: Cheryl Murphy Cuddihy (Timothy), Karen Murphy Santiago (Jimmy), and Michelle Murphy. He was the proud grandfather of Kevin Cuddihy (Nicole Matarazzo), Ryan Cuddihy (Laurentia Bivol), and Sean Cuddihy (Axel Ivander), as well as Sophia and James Santiago. He was also a doting great-grandfather to Paloma and Daria. David is also survived by his loving sister, Jeanne Smith.

A proud veteran, David served his country with honor before building a successful career as a credit manager. He worked for notable companies such as Ryerson Steel, AB Murray, Bloomcraft, and Reuters, earning a reputation for his hard work and dedication.

Beyond his professional and family life, David gave his time generously to the Special Olympics in Middletown, where he found great fulfillment in helping athletes achieve their dreams.

David was a man of many passions. An amateur photographer, he had a keen eye for capturing life's special moments. He always had a book in his hand and also loved spending time outside, whether he was fishing from his boat or flying as a recreational pilot. David and Leone also enjoyed their time as "snowbirds," spending winters in Stuart, Florida. David was an avid dog lover, with a special place in his heart for German Shorthaired Pointers.

David will be remembered for his infectious, jovial spirit, his unwavering dedication to those he loved, and his warm heart. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

To honor his memory, the family would appreciate donations to The Arc of New Jersey. Contributions can be made by visiting their website at www.arcnj.org or by mail at The Arc of New Jersey, 985 Livingston Avenue, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.

Relative and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 am Memorial Mass on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 31 Asbury Road, Farmingdale, New Jersey, United States. Following the mass, inurnment will take place at 12:30 pm at St. Anne's Cemetery, 1610 Allenwood Road, Wall Township, New Jersey, United States.
