David Wayne Oldenburg, known affectionately as Dave to his loved ones and friends, passed away on February 27, 2025, in Portage, Michigan, due to poor health. Born on April 4, 1961, in the close-knit community of Three Rivers, Michigan, Dave was a man whose presence was felt warmly by all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Constantine High School, Dave's strong work ethic was evident early on in his career. He began as an apprentice machinist at Mark Sill Manufacturing, where he honed his technical skills and dedication to craftsmanship. His expertise and patriotism led him to serve his country honorably as a Navy machinist mate, a role he carried out with great pride. Upon his return to civilian life, he continued to apply his machinist skills as an assembler at Wellsaw Manufacturing until his well-deserved retirement.
Dave's interests were as rich and varied as his character. An avid fisherman, he could often be found enjoying the tranquility of a lake at dawn, waiting patiently for the day's catch. Hunting was another of his passions, allowing him to immerse himself in the beauty of nature and the companionship of fellow enthusiasts. Off the water and out of the woods, Dave was a voracious reader and a movie buff, always ready to discuss the latest book he'd devoured or film he'd watched.
Those fortunate enough to have known Dave would describe him as kind, friendly, and intelligent. His kindness was a light that shone through in every selfless act and gentle word. His friendly demeanor ensured that he never met a stranger, only friends he hadn't yet made. His intelligence was not just in his skilled hands but also in his thoughtful conversations and his approach to life's many challenges.
Dave is survived by his brothers, Terry, Robin, and Michael Oldenburg, who will miss his guidance, humor, and companionship. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillah Mae Oldenburg, and his father, Duane Roger Oldenburg. The legacy of his spirit, his love for his family, and his zest for life will live on through them.
Dave's journey through life was marked by the love he shared, the work he accomplished, and the joy he found in his many interests. As we say goodbye to a man who meant so much to so many, we take comfort in knowing that his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. David Wayne Oldenburg's story is one of a life well-lived and a man well-loved. He will be deeply missed, but the imprints of his life's work and the memories he created will forever be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
