David W. "Olen" Olejniczak, age 63, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
David was born on June 25, 1962 in Chicago, IL to the late Melvin J. and Barbara J. (Harper) Olejniczak. He is survived by his beloved significant other, Ann Dickerson of Metamora, IL, one sister, Laura (Brian) Hunt of Kalispell, MT and one uncle, Bill (Sheila) Harper of Michigan.
While growing up in Peoria, Dave enjoyed the seemingly endless summers at Wedgewood Swim & Tennis Club where he was a lifeguard and played countless games of water volleyball. He would rally the neighborhood kids for spontaneous softball games in the grassy field next to the Convenient Store on Mountello Drive where the daily special was a hot dog & coke for $1. In the winter months you could find him shoveling snow off the neighborhood lake in preparation for hours of hockey games. He attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with his family.
Dave worked at the Second Chance Night Club which inspired his love of the hospitality industry. He graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing. Upon graduating, David moved to Chicago where he spent 20+ years in hospitality, followed by a second career working in Insurance Sales.
For those that knew him, Dave was an impressive story teller. He was well known for his embellishments, witty commentary and for his nicknaming capabilities. He was an admirer of all things Jimmy Buffet and an avid sports fan.
Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 14, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. Willard will officiate. Private family burial of ashes will follow. A luncheon will be served afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

I send my deepest sympathies. David and I had the same birthday - June 25 but I´m 10 years older. While our paths crossed too rarely - I´ve lived in Charleston, SC for the past 38 years - whenever we did meet up in Chicago, it was always a delight. He had the "gift of gab" as my mom used to say which he got from his dad. David could sure tell a story! My dad, John Olejniczak, also had many good times with David. David touched many lives!
Bill Olejniczak, older cousin.
