David Martin Ponzer, 64, of Salem, Missouri, passed away on February 16, 2025, in Tamarac, Florida. Born in Rolla, Missouri, on January 31, 1961, to the late George and Doris Ponzer, David lived a full and passionate life devoted to family, service, and personal conviction.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, David served his country with strength and honor. Following his military service, he pursued a career in computer programming in California before returning to his roots in Missouri in 2006. He was a 1989 graduate of Auburn University and an alumnus of Rolla High School.
David had a wide range of interests throughout his life-from weightlifting, fast cars, and rock climbing in his younger years, to political debate and biblical study later in life. He was deeply connected to his land and community in Missouri, and was known for his competitive spirit, sharp intellect, and deep commitment to his beliefs. Above all, David cherished his family and loved fiercely. He died heroically, giving his life in an effort to protect his beloved daughter, Mary Catherine.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faith Marie Ponzer (d. 2001); his children, Seth Ponzer and Mary Gingles; and his parents, George and Doris Ponzer.
David is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Miller; his grandchildren, Eva Reece, Isaac Reece, and Seraphine Gingles; and his siblings, Rolland Ponzer, Gregory Ponzer, Melvin Ponzer, Laura Ponzer, Martha French, and Frank Ponzer.
David's life was marked by courage, conviction, and love. He will be dearly missed and remembered always by those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of David Ponzer will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 12:00PM at the Rolla Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held at the Chapel prior to the service from 10AM until service time. He will then be taken to his final resting place at the Lake Springs Cemetery with a military service.
