David Reid Obituary

JONESBORO - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of David Paul Reid, 72, of Jonesboro, on March 19, 2025.

David was born on June 10, 1952, in Newport, to William and Norma Jeane Reid. He attended school there, graduating from Newport High School in 1970.

David attended Arkansas State University, graduating in 1974, and was a lifetime member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He went on to Dental School at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He graduated from Utah in 1977, and entered active duty service in January 1978.

A retired Lieutenant Colonel, David served in the United States Army for 29 years. During his time with the Army Dental Corps he was stationed in Fort Riley, Kan.; Schwaebisch Gmuend, Germany; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and Illesheim, Germany.

David embraced the Celtic history and culture; he visited Ireland several times, and also Scotland. He studied both Irish and Scottish Gaelic languages. He was on Duolingo for 2908 consecutive days. David marched in St. Patrick's Day parades in Honolulu, Hilo, and Fukui Japan.

David was generous and gregarious. He loved to host bands at his home in Kailua, waking early to fix breakfast for everyone. David was well known for his homemade sour dough bread.

He delighted in dressing up in various costumes and hats, whether it was for Halloween with the grandkids, or a photo shoot for Steampunk Hawaii, or a round at the pub.

After moving to Jonesboro in 2023, David became active in MOAA, the Jonesboro Lions Club, and the Delta Symphony Guild. He was also a 32nd degree Master Mason.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Ross; daughters Elisabeth Reid, Katherine Hollowell, Emily Fowler and husband Joshua; his mother, Norma Jeane Reid; his brothers, William E. Reid and wife Suzanne, John Michael Reid and wife Rebecca; his eight grandchildren, Jake, Morgan, Beau, Jenna, Logan, Eidy, Lyla and Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Jesslyn and Savannah; and also a host of nieces, nephews and friends all over the world.

David was preceded in death by his father, William Harmon Reid Jr., grandparents William H. Reid Sr., and Naomi Stanfill Reid, and grandparents Dennis E. Pounds and Erma Watson Pounds.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Birdeye, Ark. Officiated by Reverend Ken Stallings, and followed by a luncheon reception in Jonesboro.

David was a member of University Heights Lions Club in Jonesboro; so I knew him for only a short time. But he was always happy and friendly, he was a joy to be around. We will miss him greatly.

So many memories of David, we grew up together, went to the same church, our families were friends. He had the same sparkle in his eyes and the same smile when I last saw him that he had as a teenager.
Praying for his wife and family.

David was a wonderful friend when we were both teens in youth group together. His family was a blessing to this young teen when I lost my mom. His dad helped me, too, giving me answers and instruction while passing my driver´s test. What a great time we all had back then.
I´m very sorry for your loss. Prayers for all.

David was a good guy. Met at Allison's trailer Park where we both lived. Then pledged together the same Fraternity. He was a unique person. Had many good times back then. Rest in peace Brother.
