David C. Roley, a longtime resident of Norman, Oklahoma, was called Home to the Lord on October 30, 2023, at the age of 73. David was born in Norman on June 7, 1950, to Laura Lillian (Hayes) Roley and Ervin L. Roley.
A proud member of the Cattleman's Association, David enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle and show calves. He also enjoyed golfing and socializing with his friends and co-workers. David and his good friend Karen enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. David enjoyed going to the lake and taking friends and family out on his pontoon boat at Lake Texoma. He also enjoyed going to the different lakes in the area and especially loved watching the sun go down over Lake Thunderbird.
David was an Oklahoma State Cowboys fan as well as a Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching Dallas Falcon Crest and spent many of his days watching old westerns on TV.
David attended Norman High School, and shortly after graduating, he heard his country's call and served in the Army National Guard, receiving an honorable discharge for services rendered to his nation when called upon to do so. David started Sooner Backhoe Service, which eventually became David Roley Excavating Inc. He retired after 40 years of dedicated service to the Norman community.
David was generous, loving, and outgoing with a great sense of humor. He was a hard worker who always provided well for his family and was the kind of guy who would lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He lovingly raised his nephew, David, like a son and enjoyed taking him to the local and state fairs to show cattle. When young David won his first grand championship, it was one of the proudest moments in David Sr.'s life.
He was a dedicated, loving uncle and a loyal friend, whose favorite pastime was hanging out with his golfing buddies and spending quality time with David and Karen. He touched the lives of many with his love for his fellow man, and David will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Irvin, who passed in 2001, sister Linda, who passed away in 2014, and a nephew, Earl Eugene Roley.
Left to cherish his memory are his nephew, David Roley of Norman, Oklahoma; his dear friend, Karen Newell of Celina, Texas; his brother, Earl Roley of Noble, Oklahoma, and sister Sharon Marshall of Louisville, Kentucky; three nieces, Nan Schuchman, Jennifer Byington, and Sherry Lynn Risner, a nephew, Gary Wayne Marshall, and many other loving family and friends.
