It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Lee Sanders on February 15, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on December 25, 1946, to the late Willie Sanders and Queen McCurdy Sanders. David was a beloved husband, father, friend to many, and Vietnam veteran who touched several lives with his kindness and unwavering strength.
A proud Vietnam veteran, David served his country with honor and courage. He was awarded several medals, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His dedication and sacrifice will always be remembered and appreciated by those who knew him and those who benefit from the freedoms he helped protect.
In addition to his military service, David was inducted into the Thomasville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022, a testament to his exceptional athleticism and leadership. He played basketball and was the quarterback and captain of the football team during his high school years at Church Street School, where he graduated in the Class of '65. David was a member of High Point Solid Rock Ministries and a dedicated member of the Relay for Life, a community outreach for the American Cancer Society. David's legacy of love, resilience, and compassion will live on through his family and the many lives he touched. His memory will be forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kaci Epps and sons Rodney Taylor and Rodney Frederick, his sisters Joann Green and Lois Stewart.
David is survived by his loving wife, Rosie Sanders, and his devoted daughters, Courteney Straight of Thomasville and Erin Straight of Charlotte. He was also a loving father to Keri Epps-Rashad (Kerry) of High Point, Marcus Davis (Alicia) of Michigan, and David Gainey of Thomasville. He had a fondness for his eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his sisters Dorothy Fant (Erufus) and Gracie Keitt, special friends Margaret and Amos Duncan and Doug Baker and other nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
