David Lee Scholtus
Oskaloosa. David Scholtus, 50, of Oskaloosa died Monday, December 16, 2024. He was born on September 17, 1974, in Oskaloosa, the son of Marion and Carol Stainbrook Scholtus. He graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1992. Throughout school he worked on the farm with his family. Following graduation, he worked for several years as a crew leader at Bloom Builders in Oskaloosa. He then went to work at Vermeer for a few years. On September 1, 2001, he was united in marriage to Tammy Moore at Lake Keomah. In 2002, he went to work at John Deere in Ottumwa as a welder. He was a member of UAW 74 at John Deere in Ottumwa. He was an avid outdoorsman he especially enjoyed deer hunting, coon hunting especially with his favorite coon dog Reba, and mushroom hunting. He was a member of the American Coon Hunters Association. He also enjoyed riding horses on trail rides with friends and family. He loved life and spending time with his friends and family.
His family includes his wife of over 23 years, Tammy Moore-Scholtus of Oskaloosa; two step daughters, Tonya (Matt) Boeck of Ames and Tasha (Brock) Lyon of Indiana; his mother, Carol Scholtus of Oskaloosa; three brothers, Glenn (Deseiri) Scholtus of Oskaloosa, Dean (Gina) Scholtus of Fremont, and Sam Scholtus of Oskaloosa; two sisters, Renee Ault of Oskaloosa and Robin (Randy) Hook of Oskaloosa; many nieces nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a many good friends including Tom VanDerVeer.
He was preceded in death by his fathers, Marion Scholtus, his grandmother, Esther Kempenaar; a brother-in-law, Al Ault; and a nephew, Andrew Scholtus. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, Iowa with Reverend Del Bittner officiating. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery east of Oskaloosa. Bates Funeral Chapel are in charge of arrangements. Open visitation will be on Sunday, December 22, 2024 starting at 11:00 AM and the family will be at the funeral chapel to greet friends and relatives from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM.
