Gerald Everett Hatch, age 89, of Clive and formerly of Keomah Village, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Woodlands Creek Senior Living in Clive, Iowa. He was born on April 2, 1936, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Lester and Helen (Brimcomb) Hatch. Jerry attended high school in Austin, Minnesota and graduated with the Class of 1954. He then furthered his education, earning his undergraduate degree from Luther College in Decorah and lastly obtained his master's degree from Northeast Missouri Teachers College, now known as Truman State University. On September 22, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to DeVonne Peterson in Decorah, Iowa.

Jerry taught for 31 years in the Oskaloosa School District until retiring in 1994. Jerry taught Physical Education and History while also coaching football, basketball and golf. His golf teams won state championships in 1993 and 1994. He enjoyed playing basketball, and cards with his friends and other teachers. Jerry also enjoyed fishing, playing golf and reading. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings Fan. Jerry was a member of ISEA-NEA, The Elks, and was a past elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa.

He is survived by his wife, DeVonne of Clive; his son, Tadd (Karen) Hatch of Waukee; 2 grandchildren, Brett Hatch of Salt Lake City and Mickey Hatch of Waukee and a sister, Carol Stiffler of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Pat Hanson.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August, 28, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Amy McGriff officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel with Jerry's family present to greet relatives and guests. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Oskaloosa or Suncrest Hospice (5959 Village View Drive #100, 50266) of West Des Moines.
