David Robert Aikin, 71, entered eternal rest on Monday August 18, 2025.

He was born on October 25, 1953 in Lansing, Michigan to Robert Leon Aikin and Ellen Rebecca Waldie Aikin.

David was a kind-hearted, beloved teacher, colleague, and friend. He left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all that had the privilege of knowing him.

David is survived by his loving sister Jean Tucker, nephews Jason and Justin McDonald, great-nephew Maddox McDonald, and great-niece Jenna McDonald. He is also survived by his special friend Persefoney Wince, numerous cousins, and countless friends and students who cherished him dearly.

He attended Abilene Cooper High School, graduating in 1972.

David earned his Bachelor of Music Education / Music performance degree from West Texas A & M University. He also studied computer science at Texas Tech University, and studied Business / Accounting at Midland College.

Even though he passed away in Abilene, TX, his heart was always in the Rio Grande Valley.

David Aikin was a proud resident of Pharr, TX, and devoted his career in public education. Mr. Aikin started teaching in 1977, where he joined the Bear Band Family as an Assistant Band Director. He devoted 36 years to PSJA ISD teaching Flute, Saxophone, and Bassoon. In 1991, he became one of the first band directors to teach at PSJA North HS when it first opened. He dedicated 22 years at PSJA North HS and was loved by his Raider Band Family.

David Aikin had many passions in life. He had a passion for music and teaching. He loved his students and spent his career inspiring many students' lives through music. He loved riding his motorcycle, eating pizza, and making memories, taking pictures of the band. He also loved working with computers. He used his in-depth computer knowledge to create computer programs for the band to use such as the UIL Wizard.

David, himself, was known as "The Wizard" for his magical talent of consistently guiding students to achieve at the highest level in the state. In his career he produced 20 TMEA All-State musicians, 15 UIL Outstanding Performers, and an abundance of TMEA All-Region Band members and UIL State Soloists. He was known for his unwavering dedication, positive energy, patience, and encouragement. He dedicated his life to nurturing the musical talents of countless students until he retired from PSJA North in 2014. His legacy lives on through the impact he made on so many students' lives. Many of the students he taught went on to become band directors themselves, and will continue to instill his passion for music and education.

Though he may no longer be with us in body, he touched the lives of all those around him and his spirit will live on in our hearts.

The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care provided by the individuals of Wisteria Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Abilene, Tx.
