It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Perry Standard, who left us on January 8 at the age of 73. David was born February 24, 1951, in Galveston to the late Finis Acton Standard and Alice Dorothy (Gladfelter) Standard. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, David Andrew Standard of Dallas and Justin Wayne Standard of Lake Jackson; daughter Lavinia Kuykendall-Green and spouse Gina of New Braunfels; and brother James Lee Standard and spouse Peggy of Pipe Creek.
David enjoyed living in the Alvin and Manvel area the entirety of his independent life. He spent the last six years living with his son in Dallas. He attended Alvin High School and Alvin Community College.
David learned the value of hard work at an early age. He was a welder by trade, as well as a Boilermaker for Union Local 132. In addition to helping his father with drilling and pump installation as a water well contractor, David obtained a Minor's Release and started working for T&L Leasing at the age of 15. He got his first welding rig in 1970 and founded Standard Welding Service a short time later, following in his father's footsteps as a small business owner. In his later years, David drove a fuel tanker for Kellogg Brown & Root in Iraq. In his retirement, David volunteered by making deliveries for the Alvin Food Pantry.
David loved swapping tall tales at the coffee shop, especially Orlando's. He was a great friend, great father and will be missed by all who knew him. His laughter, often at inappropriate moments, was infectious and a blessing to all who shared it.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Scott Funeral Home with a Memorial Service to begin at 1:00 PM.
