David Szymanski Obituary
David A. Szymanski, 63, of Tampa, FL passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on March 25, 1961, in Buffalo, New York. Dave was a faithful follower of Christ; a devoted husband, father and grandfather; a loyal brother; and a truly faithful friend. He lived a life like Christ – always thinking of and making sacrifices for those he loved.
A natural communicator and an avid reader, Dave fell in love with journalism as a middle school student at St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Kenmore, New York and continued to pursue his passion throughout both his undergraduate and graduate studies at Saint Bonaventure University and Michigan State. As such, his career path included that of a writer, business editor, corporate communications manager, and educator.
At the top of his great passions in life was that of his family. Everything he did, he did to the benefit of those around him. His children knew a father who was quick to volunteer to coach on the field, sit in the front row at dance recitals, initiate family gatherings, and patiently help with "this-is-due-tomorrow-and-I-haven't-started-yet" projects. His children were always a priority, and they knew through his personal involvement in their lives how very much they were loved.
An avid sports fan, Dave could engage in any conversation about sports, as he recalled the most obscure and interesting facts about so many teams and players throughout history. He particularly enjoyed the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills, and Tampa Bay Lightning. And though he would cheer for his favorite teams with passion, he had a quiet, reflective side and a deep appreciation for poetry, often referencing the masters.
Dave is survived by his proud and loving spouse, Josie Reed; daughter, Mary Szymanski Jarvis (William); sons Daniel Szymanski (Sarah) and Robert Szymanski (Allie); granddaughter, Riley Szymanski; grandsons, Wyatt, Ciarán, and Lennon Jarvis; brother, Mark Szymanski, of Sloan, New York and brother Brian Szymanski (Lisa) of Lee, New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his father and life-long role model, Leonard Szymanski and fun-loving and beautiful mother, Frances A. Szymanski (nee Jedrzejewski).
A Mass in Dave's honor will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Seffner, FL at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 21st, proceeded by visitation with the family beginning at 9:00 am. Dave will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following the service.
In keeping with Dave's deep concern for those in need, please consider a contribution to Metropolitan Ministries in lieu of flowers.
