David Tiedt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Connell Funeral Home - Little Chute on Apr. 17, 2025.
David Lee Tiedt, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 13th, 2025. Born in Appleton, Wisconsin on December 6, 1948, to the late Orville and Lauretta (Kressin) Tiedt, David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather (a.k.a. Papa), brother, and friend.
David attended Fox Valley Lutheran High School where his love for sports and his competitive nature excelled in basketball, football, and track. He then went on to complete his degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie Simon, on January 15, 1972, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neenah. Connie preceded him in death on March 1, 2020, and he missed her terribly, always referring to her as "the love of my life".
After serving his country as a medic in the National Guard, David embarked on a successful career in sales and purchasing, culminating in his retirement as the Director of Purchasing & Distribution for Green Bay Public Schools. His commitment to his community was evident in his 26 years of service on the Grand Chute Police and Fire Commission, serving as vice president and president throughout his tenure. David was proud to be a founding member of the commission and treasured his role in helping the Grand Chute police and fire departments evolve and thrive. David was honored to have served on the commission with so many wonderful people, including his close friend, Tom Dreier. Tom was a compassionate and dedicated friend and was instrumental in David's care in his final days.
David was a passionate outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He spent countless hours at what he affectionately called "The Shack" on his hunting land, creating cherished memories with his hunting buddies. He loved his time fishing on Pier Lake with his good friend the late Harland Carl and his family. One of David's favorite "Papa" duties was teaching all his grandkids how to fish, never failing to respond to the hundreds of requests of, "Papa, I need a worm!".
David also found solace and community as an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenville. Immanuel's Pastor Tim Dolan was a source of support, guidance, and comfort for David especially during David's brave battle with ALS. David was a man of deep faith, with an unwavering belief in God's promise of eternal life. His loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
David is survived by his daughters: Jennifer (Kyle) Stoehr, of Okauchee; Jessica Johnson, of Phoenix; and Jill (Matt) Magill, of New Berlin; and his grandchildren: Owen, Maxwell, Norah, Ella, Beckett, Wyatt, Carter, and Sawyer. He is also survived by his devoted brother, Dennis (Elaine) Tiedt whose support during David's illness was a source of strength and comfort; his siblings-in-law: Carla (Paul) Bagstad, Leslie (Debbie) Simon, David Simon, and Cindy (Rodger) Eberly; his dear friends that were family, John and Nancy Reader; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Lauretta Tiedt; his wife, Connie; his parents-in-law, Lester and LaVera Simon; and his sister-in-law, Mary Simon.
Visitation for David will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 10:45 a.m. at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH (W7265 School Road, Greenville). His funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Dolan officiating. Committal will take place at Community Lutheran Cemetery in Freedom. In lieu of flowers, the Tiedt family kindly requests that memorials be made in David's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Greenville, or the ALS Association.

The three Tiedt girls, Denny Elaine, you all are in my thoughts a prayers with deep sadness and sorrow. Denny and Dave were both my big brothers while growing up on West Pine Street. So many great memories and stories which were the good old days makes me have faith for all the good times. God bless. Lynn Hoffman Bayness
