Obituary for Tom O. Tiedt:
"In this life, we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love." Mother Teresa
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tom Tiedt a beloved husband of fifty-five years, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Tom's journey through life was marked by his unwavering love for his family and friends. He passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of kindness, camaraderie, and cherished memories.
Tom was the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome. His easy-going nature and thoughtful demeanor endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether it was a casual conversation or a moment of support. Tom always took the time to lend a listening ear and offer wise counsel. He had a unique ability to brighten the lives of those around him, and his generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on friends and family alike.
While serving in the United States Air Force Tom served as an air policeman working in the SAG unit keeping watch over the aircraft that were used to carry out military missions.
An avid sports enthusiast, Tom had a passion for various sports, with golf, swimming, water skiing, fishing and riding his Triumph Motorcycle holding a special place in his heart. However, most of these activities came to a halt when Tom and Jane started their family. Both Tom and Jane decided early on that they wanted one, if not both parents to be at home with the children, and as a result, Tom and Jane worked different shifts.
Above all, Tom cherished his family. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather he found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones, being referred to as "Mr. Mom" before the term was even popular. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of warmth that only Tom could foster. When his children were little family trips to see family in Ohio or up north were one of their highlights. Various trips to Washington D.C., Disney World, Mexico, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach and a myriad of other venues made for fond memories that will be with us forever. Tom's love extended beyond his immediate family. As a brother and uncle, he was steadfast supporter and a source of wisdom.
Over the last ten years, Tom was in and out of the hospital and rehab centers, and always worked hard to come home. Unfortunately, this last time was not meant to be. Tom had a blessed life.
As we celebrate the life of Tom Tiedt, we remember not just the milestones he achieved, but the relationships he cultivated and the love he shared. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the values he instilled in all of us.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Jane, two sons, Tom (Vicki) and Justin. Cherished grandfather of Andrew, Ava, Audrey, Hailey Tiedt. Loving brother of Rick (Kathy) Tiedt. Dearest son of the late Doris Austin and Harold Tiedt. Special brother-in-law to Joann and Ernie (deceased) Vale, Joe and Barb Sulek, Jim Sulek and Monica Jackson-Sulek. Loving uncle to E.J. and Laura Vale, Matt and Joanne, Todd, Trisha and Scott Sulek, Christopher and Katie Sulek-Jackson, Theresa, Jimmy and Joey Sulek, MIchael and Katie Tiedt.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made for memorial masses honoring the faithful departed. In honoring his memory, let us carry forward his spirit of kindness his zest for life, and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025 at the Wasik Funeral Home, Inc., 49150 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Township, Michigan 48315 where family will receive visitors beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 48115 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Township, Michigan 48315, where Tom will lie in state beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of mass at 10:00 a.m.
