Michael Joe Morton, age 44, of Warren, Michigan, passed away on October 6, 2025.
Mike (affectional known as Mikey to his family) was born on July 30, 1981, in Detroit. Mike was the beloved son of Joseph and the late Linda Morton. He spent his early years in Hamtramck before the family settled in Warren, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Mike was a dedicated employee of Energy Products for over 23 years. He began his career there as a service technician and, through hard work, perseverance, and a strong work ethic, rose to the position of shop leader. He took great pride in his role and was respected by his colleagues for both his leadership and technical skill.
Outside of his career, Mike had a wide range of interests and passions. He was an avid gamer and a dedicated movie enthusiast, always keeping up with the latest releases. A lifelong learner, Mike was a voracious reader with a deep interest in politics and was never one to shy away from a good debate.
Above all, Mike's greatest source of strength and purpose was his faith. His relationship with God was central to his life, and he found comfort and guidance in scripture, reading his Bible with devotion. Mike also cherished the simple joys in life, including watching the gophers play in his yard each summer - a small pleasure that brought him genuine happiness.
Mike will also be fondly remembered for his humor and unforgettable one-liners, often greeting others with his signature phrase, "Oh yay, you?" or teasing them with a grin and the line, "Your mommy really hates you." These lighthearted sayings were classic Mike - equal parts playful and disarming, and always delivered with affection.
Mike is survived by his loving father, Joseph Morton; his siblings; numerous nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, extended family members, and many dear friends. He will be remembered for his intelligence, his sense of humor, his unwavering faith, and the quiet kindness he shared with those around him.
Mike is preceded in passing by his beloved mother Linda Morton; his grandparents Louise & Ray Derringer, and Joseph and Helen Morton; and his cousin James Preston.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025 from 2:00 - 8:00pm at Wasik Funeral Home, 49150 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Township, MI 48315. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 10:00am, with burial to follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mike's name to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen
