David Torres, a dedicated and beloved member of the Kingsville community, passed away on August 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and commitment to family and friends. Born on February 16, 1945, in Kingsville, Texas, David spent his life in service to his country, family, and community, embodying the values of dedication and hard work.

A proud veteran, David answered the call of duty by serving in the United States Army. Drafted to the Vietnam War in 1965, he became a distinguished member of the 25th Infantry Division, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter Medal. His military service not only defined a significant chapter of his life but also instilled in him a sense of responsibility and honor that would resonate throughout his subsequent years.

David's career path led him to work at King Ranch as a courier. After retirement, he transitioned to the role of shipping and receiving supervisor for C&C Bakery from 1987 to 1998. In 1998, David embarked on a new journey as a Spec Clerk at Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he was entrusted with the vital task of issuing equipment for the Physical Education Department until his well-deserved retirement in 2012.

Outside of his professional life, David cherished time spent with his family, especially during barbecues that brought family together. He had a fondness for daily drives around town and was a cherished presence at church every Saturday afternoon. Family and friends will fondly remember him as a jokester who maintained a stern yet humble demeanor; always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

David enjoyed a variety of hobbies that enriched his life. He loved to dance, take morning walks, and trips to Layola Beach. A true lover of simple pleasures, he found joy in visiting local fast-food restaurants, although he never missed his morning stop at McDonald's for coffee and biscuits—a ritual that symbolized his appreciation for routine and comfort.

David Torres leaves a cherished memory in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of laughter, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire those he has touched throughout his remarkable life.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Yolanda V. Torres; parents, Estanislado and Hortencia (Herrera) Torrez; siblings, Neri Torrez; and nephew, David T. Perez.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Melissa Jean Torres (Felix Espinoza); siblings, Eleazar Torrez (Beatrice), Roy Torrez (Mary) Emma T. Villarreal (Beto), Lucy Rodriguez, Tina Hinojosa, Oscar Torrez, Ernesto Torrez, Sally Moya (Abel), Stella Abbey, Nelda Howard (Paul), Sylvia Torrez, Eloy Torrez, and Noelia Torrez; grandchildren, Alexandria Yolanda Najera, Krystal Amanda Najera (Marcus Salinas), 2LT Mikaela Nicole Garcia, and Nathan Moses Garcia; great-grandchildren, Carter Salinas, Xander Salinas, Ryker Salinas, and Ava Grace Salinas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and exteded family.

The family will receive condolences on August 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. A rite of committal and interment will follow at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
