Obituary of David A. Uber

Beloved husband, best friend and cherished father, David A. "Doc" Uber, went to his heavenly home on January 16, 2025. Finally free from pain and the dreaded 25' oxygen tube, he's now able to pick up his guitar or play his drums and sing praises to his Lord and Savior!
Although Dave's birth year was 1942, the birthdate he valued the most was his spiritual birthday, September 19, 1981. This is when he accepted Jesus as his Savior, giving him an entirely new life and way of living. Previously, during his adult years he had been a jazz musician and territorial salesman and addicted to prescription drugs. After accepting Jesus, he was miraculously healed of the addiction to drugs and accepted the calling to serve Jesus.
Dave began his new calling by becoming a worship leader – not only leading worship but teaching others to lead worship. Later, he continued his ministry by becoming an ordained minister. But feeling that there was more to his calling, as he pastored to smaller churches in Maine, he attended college part-time at the University of Maine until he finally graduated with a master's degree, primarily in counseling.
Ultimately, it became evident that Dave's calling was a ministry to those who had been "just like him" – meaning those addicted to drugs, alcohol or other addictions and did not know Jesus as their Savior. He became involved with Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered recovery program that helps people heal from their hurts, habits and hang-ups, originally founded at Saddleback Church in 1991. After retiring from pastoring and returning to Pennsylvania, he started a Celebrate Recovery program at his home church, Blue Mountain Community Church, Palmerton, PA. and for 5 years welcomed and counseled many people who were able to rid themselves of their addictions and gain healing and hope through accepting Jesus as their Savior. Dave was described by those who he ministered to and counseled as a kind and accepting mentor, counselor, friend, teacher, pastor and encourager. But to Dave, he was just a person saved through the grace of God and given the mission to "bring Good News to the poor... Proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, and that the oppressed will be set free...." (Luke 4:18). As a note, Dave's ministry moved back and forth from Pennsylvania to Maine ending up in Cohoes, NY, where he and his wife resided with his youngest daughter.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Albert Uber and mother, Mary "Marie" Deal as well as his siblings, Adalaide "Tootsie" Uber, William "Bud" Uber, Theodore "Ted" Uber and Myra Uber.
Family still living to carry on his legacy are his "sweetheart"/wife Deborah, children Sandra Tordella (Brian), Janine Hahn (Keith), Albert "Bud" Uber, Tom Uber (Lotti) and Johonna Uber, along with nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
A special thank you is given to Eddy Visiting Nurses and Community Hospice, both of Albany, NY, who assisted our family with the utmost compassion and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 11 AM at Blue Mountain Community Church, 25 Oak Street, Palmerton, PA 1807. A luncheon following the service will be hosted by their Celebrate Recovery group. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made online or sent to Blue Mountain Community Church bmcc.cc.
