David Bruce Van Dyk was born on March 26, 1952, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Robert and Carol (Fast) Van Dyk. He grew up alongside his five siblings, including his sisters Jorja Krepps and Lori (Garry) Charles. He attended Wyoming Park High School, and shortly after graduating, he married his "sweetie," Nola Jean Murphy. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage and built a beautiful life.
David and Nola were blessed with three amazing daughters--Shannon, Melissa, and Jamie--who brought boundless joy and pride into his life. He cherished his grandchildren: Noah (Lauren) Jager, Jacob (Amanda) Jager, Nicholas (Olli) Navalta, Morgan Navalta, Juniper Pawson, and Bowie Pawson, and his great-grandchildren, Eliza Jager and Rose Jager. Being a grandfather was his greatest joy, and he adored spending time with them--whether inventing "conspiriments," playing games, or simply sharing stories (some of which were even true).
A dedicated worker, David retired from Ackerman Electric, now Kendall Electric, where he worked his way from the service desk to sales. An avid outdoorsman, he hosted and participated in many fishing tournaments, and his love of nature was evident in the daily walks he took along his road, where he tirelessly picked up trash--a gesture that earned him recognition from the township and, on occasion, mistaken identity as a homeless man.
David was a good brother, a devoted husband, a loving father, and an exceptional grandfather. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and adventure. He taught his family to appreciate nature, to tell a good story, and to cherish each moment. His absence is deeply felt by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Carol, his brothers Michael and James, his sister Donna, and other cherished family members.
David leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Those who knew him were blessed to experience his kindness, humor, and deep affection. He will be missed beyond measure.
