David Lamar Wardlaw, age 68, of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, entered his eternal rest on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Barbara, Bill Brooks, and his faithful canine companion, Darryl.
David was born in LaFayette, Georgia, to the late Jacob Aaron Wardlaw and Helen Huff Wardlaw. He was a 1974 graduate of Gordon Lee Memorial High School and attended Dalton Junior College, where he was a member of the 1975 Roadrunner golf team. He later continued his education at Georgia Southern University, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management.
David had a lifelong passion for sports and automobiles. He especially loved cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs-often with a hearty "Go Dawgs!"-and his Georgia Southern Eagles. Whether watching a game or talking sports with friends, his enthusiasm and loyalty to his teams were unwavering.
David's career was marked by hard work, dedication, and integrity. He was employed by Salem Carpet Mills, Fruit of the Loom, Inc., Clayton Manufactured Homes, and Tai Ping Carpet, which later became Royal Thai Amricas, Inc. His career took him to Asheville, North Carolina, and Greenville, Mississippi, before he and Barbara made their home on Lookout Mountain, where they have lived for the past 27 years.
David will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments and love of sports, but also for his kind heart, quiet strength, and steadfast faith. He lived each day with gratitude and grace, trusting in God's plan and sharing his joy with those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Aaron and Helen Huff Wardlaw.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 37 years, Barbara Jewell Wardlaw; his beloved dog, Darryl; his uncle and aunt, Charles and Shirley Wardlaw of LaFayette; his aunt, Carol Browder of Lookout Mountain; brother-in-law: Corky (Terri) Jewell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home – J. Avery Bryan Chapel in Chickamauga. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Pastor Terry Burns and Bill Brooks officiating. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gordon Lee Alumni Association, 402 Cove Road, Chickamauga, GA 30707.
Though his earthly journey has ended, David's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who knew him.
Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home – J. Avery Bryan Chapel, Chickamauga, Georgia.
