Dave was born on September 4, 1946, in Carbondale, to Leonard and Beulah E. (Whitecotton) Welch. He married Sharon Kay Stocks on October 26, 1973, in Cambria.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kay Welch, of Cambria; son, Michael (Amber) Welch, Chad (Sarah) Welch, his grandson who he adopted; grandchildren, Kaila Welch, Brady Welch, and Hailey Welch; sister, Renae (Glenn "Butch") Hunsaker; brother-in-law, Jim (Carol) Stocks; plus, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special thanks to close friends, Jim (Susan) Marnie, Randy (Laura) Palmowski, and Debbie Tanner.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christy RaNell Welch; and son, Timothy Alan Welch.
He dedicated over 44 years to the coal mining industry, working at Freeman No. 3, Night Hawk, and Kerr McGee–American Coal, and eventually retiring as a Mine Manager. A heartfelt thank you to his many friends and co-workers in the mining community for their support and camaraderie.
Dave's true passion was golf. He was a proud member of the Southern Illinois Seniors Golf Association and cherished his time playing with friends in Haines City, Florida, where he and Sharon enjoyed life as snowbirds. He also loved spending time outdoors-especially fishing and hunting-and was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan.

My thoughts, prayers and condolences for the family and friends. Dave was one of my favorite people I ever had the pleasure of working with. Great coal miner and friend. Even better person. RIP my friend.
