David Clay Wertz, 76, of Orrville, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025 in Apple Creek.
David was born September 25, 1949 in Wooster, Ohio to Howard and Dorothy {Fath} Wertz.
David graduated from Wooster High School in 1968, and later attended Police Officer School.
He married Lola Elliott on December 28, 1996.
David worked for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for over 15 years. He then became a self employed Semi-Driver. David later worked as a security guard and a driver for K&M Builders. He loved watching sports and races on TV, he never wanted to miss a game. David also enjoyed going to Norwalk to watch the drag races.
David will be deeply missed by his wife Lola; step-children Veronica Hutchinson, George Schar, Charlie (Traci) Schar, and Steven Schar; 11 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and sisters Deb (Dave) Rowland and Lisa Birkes.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law Donald and Iola Elliott, and brother James Wertz.
Friends may call Thursday October 9, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Orrville Grace Brethren Church services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church (and livestreamed at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com/obituaries/David-Wertz) with Pastor Isaac Graham, Pastor Del Miller, and Pastor Joshua Steiner officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster is assisting with arrangements. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
