David Charles Willoughby, 84, Plainfield, passed away May 20, 2025. David was born on November 16, 1940, to the late Charles Clay and Mabelle Laura (Haller) Willoughby. He was also preceded in death by twin sons; sister, Charlene; brother, Paul. Survivors include a son, Brian; a daughter, Kara; five grandchildren.
David served as president of the Methodist Youth Group for the Northern Jurisdiction of the Methodist Church and attended many years of summer camps at the church's Battleground, Indiana campgrounds as a youth.
He graduated from Avon High School in 1958 and attended Indiana and Butler Universities. He specialized in medical workshops through the Biological Photographic Association. David was the first Board Certified Registered Biological Photographer by examination in the state of Indiana. He held various association offices in his career. David was instrumental in producing many educational surgical programs for Methodist Hospital Medical Education for more than 20 years. He became trained by the FBI and transitioned his photographic expertise to the Marion County Forensic Agency, retiring in 2002.
David enjoyed all sports by having played baseball, softball, and officiated high school and college basketball for over thirty-five years. He was a USS swimming official during the Pan Am Games in Indianapolis.
A decorated and accomplished Mason, David was Past Master of Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 713 in 1992, Indianapolis Masonic Lodge No. 669 in 2013, and served as Trustee of Mooresville Masonic Lodge No. 79. He received the Indiana Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons Award of Gold for 50 years of membership in 2020. He was Grand Director General of Yeomen of York of Indiana in 2018-19, a 50-year member of Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite. David was past presiding officer of West Side York Rite bodies, Past Prior of Robert A. Woods Prior No. 62 of Knights of the York Cross of Honour, and received the Order of the Purple Cross in 2015 from the York Rite Sovereign College, N.A. David served the Marvin L. Isley York Rite College No. 129 as secretary since 2011.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 22. 2025, 5 to 7 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. The Masonic Memorial will begin at 7 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2025, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery.
