David Winter, 81, of Lakota, died Friday at Kossuth Regional Healthcare Center in Algona. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 1:30 PM at the Lakota First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kent Madison officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Lakota. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Lakota First Presbyterian Church and will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
David Michael Winter was born July 18, 1943 in Algona, son of Raymond and Edna (Estle) Winter. David was raised on a farm west of Lakota. As a kid, he was active in 4-H and has fond memories of taking a train trip to Chicago for a convention. He graduated from Ledyard High School in 1961. He married Janice Thompson on December 14, 1963 at the Ledyard Methodist Church. They then moved a quarter of a mile down the road where they raised four daughters, Ronda, Donna, Brenda, and Paula.
David proudly farmed 62 years, 59 of those on his family farm. David was proud of his daughters and taught them all a good work ethic by working together on the farm. Throughout the years, he milked cows, had sheep, pigs, and chickens along with row crops. He enjoyed threshing bees and antique tractors. He enjoyed being social at the Ledyard Country Store, which the family bought in 1995, and spent a lot of time at Sapp Machinery Auction and helping Jason at Hallberg Auctions. Faith and the church was important to him, having read the Bible cover to cover countless times. David was a simple man who enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and playing cards, especially cribbage.
David M. Winter passed away Friday, April 18, 2025 at Kossuth Regional Health Center, at the age of 81.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Winter of Lakota; four daughters, Ronda (Kevin) Gray of Titonka, Donna (Dave, deceased) Christ of Lakota, Brenda Winter of Clear Lake, and Paula (Dennis) Spilman of Garner; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Kristy Brunsvold (Chris, deceased) and her children Bode, Tucker, and Emma, Kurt Gray, Teresa Lee and her children Caden and McKenzie, Anthony (Kristin) Christ and their children Aspyn, Baker and Oakley, Brett Winter, Amber Winter, Emily (Turner) Albertson, Macey (fiancé Ryan Meyers) Spilman, and Bradey Spilman.
