Deane C. Yost, 83, was received into Heaven on July 16, 2024. She and surviving husband, Pastor Donald C. Yost, resided in
Asheville, NC, where they served the Lord at Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Black Mountain, NC. Although born in Tennessee on September 3, 1940, she grew up in southern West Virginia and resided in Huntington, WV, for many years before moving to Florida and then on to Asheville, serving alongside Don in pastorships. In addition to her "Pastor's wife" ministry, Deane enjoyed reading and gardening and quilting. In 2019, she placed four quilted items in the Pasco County Fair (FL) and won four blue ribbons. Her most treasured quilt she named "Christmas Morning." She also sewed quilts for all the family members, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Some got more than one. In addition, for several years she contributed to a quilt group that annually sent quilts to Mountain Heart Mission in southern West Virginia..
She also loved to cruise. She and Don enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets at sea. The highlights of her cruising were spending three days in Paris, three days in Copenhagen, and a week in London. For my sister, Deane C. Yost
Deane stands beside a river; her blue eyes sparkle with happiness. Always a vision of beauty and strength, she now is radiant with indescribable joy. We watch from afar, unable to go near. But she does not want or need us to do so. Her excitement comes from another Who leads her, skipping like a child, across the magnificently clear and beautiful river. Our eyes stare, transfixed by amazement at her delight. Then she is gone.
Where has she gone? She is merely out of sight; that is all. And yet, we feel diminished by her absence. However, conversely, in our hearts, we have been increased by her life-long consistency of sweet smiles, kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness, and immense faith and love for her family. Where she goes now, other eyes are watching the river. "Here she comes!" They loudly and excitedly shout.
We give you back to God, Deane. But we do not lose in the giving back, just as God did not lose in giving. God's word says that what He gives, He never takes away. What is His is always ours if we are His.
When Don called to tell me of Heaven receiving Deane, he began by saying in a cheerful voice, "Deane just sailed away so peacefully." What a lovely description! But given our country background and Daddy's ol' time preaching and singing, her brother David and I choose to say farewell this way: "Goodbye, our darling, precious sister. We'll see you at the river."
Composed with Love,
June C. McDonald
John 14:3: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also."
