DeAnn Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brosh Chapel - Cedar Rapids on Dec. 8, 2025.
DeAnn Marie Thompson, 63, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 20th from 2–5 p.m. at The Pines in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Her final resting place will be with her husband, Jim, at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas, with details for a graveside service to be shared at a later time.

DeAnn was born on September 14, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Wayne and Jeanne (Van Dyke) Steinke.

She spent many years living in Kansas City, where she loved cheering on the Chiefs. She enjoyed tending to flowers and plants and always kept something growing. She also adored her dog, Annie, who was her constant companion.

Above all, DeAnn was a selfless and loving mother and wife... and dedicated her entire life to her children and husband.

She poured her heart into her family, finding her deepest joy and meaning in the people she loved most.

She is survived by her children and their families who are a living reflection of the love she gave them;

James Thompson III and his wife Erin, with children Tae, James IV, Baylee, Oakley, and Granger

Doug Thompson and his wife Colleen, with children Bodhi, Rylee, and Archie

Cassandra Thompson and her husband Kofi, with children DeAnn, Chloe, and Graceson

She is also survived by her mother, Jeanne, and her siblings Donald Steinke, Deborah Papesh, Douglas Steinke, and Dennis Steinke.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Steinke, and her husband, Jim Thompson.
