It is with heavy hearts and sadness that the family of DEBORAH SUE TURNER announce her passing on October 13, 2025, at age 77 in
Huntsville, TX, with her daughters by her side.
She was born on May 20, 1948, in Houston, TX to her parents Robert and Lois Brassell. She was one of three children.
Deborah was a graduate of Sam Houston High School. She married the love of her life, "Oscar" shortly after graduation in 1966 and they started a family. A devoted wife of 52 years, a loving courageous mother to her three children and grandmother to her grandchildren, that she adored more than life.
After marrying her love and amidst raising a family, she pursued a career in the administrative end of the medical field doing what she loved most, helping people. She touched many lives and made several lifelong friends along the way. She spent many years juggling between work, her husband and keeping her children active in dance, baseball, cheerleading, football, vacations and weekend river trips. It wasn't an easy task but with her brave and determined, "spicy" personality she accepted any challenge and was endlessly committed to loving and supporting her children.
She was a "city girl" at heart, with a hidden passion she would later discover after Oscar moved her to the country in 2009. Unsure of what to do with herself where "the trees are", she found her passion in gardening and growing beautiful flowers. And not just any flowers. She grew roses and lilies of every type and color that beat anything in Home and Garden magazine. Her favorite "F" word was, FLOWERS...A passion that would later involve her children and grandchildren as well. It took a village at times to keep things up to her expectations, but her family wouldn't have had it any other way. You could see the gratification and love in her eyes as she admired the beauty of her accomplishments that surrounded her.
Her other favorite hobbies were cooking, eating anything sweet, making sequined Christmas ornaments, spending time with her children, and grand babies and taking trips with her daughter to see her Arkansas family. Leaving behind precious memories wherever she was present.
She now watches over and protects from above those that have survived her -daughter Tammy Turner; daughter Shannon Turner; daughter-n-law Gail Turner; her grandchildren Shaylen, Laci, Christopher, Molly, Rachel, Nina, Stephanie, David, and Britnie; great grandchildren - Maddilynn Paige, Landon, "Lil Willie", Maycin, Parker, Myla Sue, Harper, Zayla, and Cassie and her brother Wayne Brassell (Valerie).
She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends, all of whom she cherished deeply.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Harry "Oscar" Turner; son Robert Turner; grandson Jason Turner; grandson Tylor Turner; parents Robert Brassell & Lois Brassell Garber; stepfather Willie Garber; sister Wanda Poole, and brother "baby" Robert Wayne Brassell.
Our loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind. She leaves a love, tenderness and a "strength" that will continue to grow and get us through the lonely days ahead. A love that will stand the test of times.
Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding".
I would like to thank Benchmark Hospice for the compassionate care shown to our mom and myself in the previous months and her final days. Especially her nurses Chris (girl), Chris (boy) and her aide Vernita who showed us all a gentle comfort and loving support. We are forever grateful.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 1:00pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. A reception with light refreshments will be held after the service in the Sam Houston Community Room. Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.shmfh.com.
