Mrs. Debra Kay Black, 73, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at ECU Health Center.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
A native of Cumberland County, Debra was born to the late Jerry and Martha Marshburn Ward on March 20, 1952. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Pitt Community College where she received her Nursing Assistant Certificate. She retired from Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now ECU Health).
Debra will be fondly remembered for her love of family. She always enjoyed gathering with family and friends. A loving daughter, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Debra was preceded in death by a grandchild, Xzavius Smith and a sister, Nancy Ward.
She is survived by Daughters, Corina Black-Jury and husband, David, Tanya Black and husband, Brian Culbertson, Marlena Black, all of Greenville, NC; Grandchildren, Jedidiah Black, Jace Pollard, Gavin Lee Culbertson, Liam Jury and Sophia Jury;
Sister, Cathy Ward and husband Harold Dowdy; Brothers, David Ward and wife, Theda, and James Ward and wife, April, all of Sanford; And several nieces.
