Debra "Debbie" Marie Hogan, 70, passed away on May 14, 2025, with her family by her side. Born on December 7, 1954, in Moline, Illinois.
Debbie filled her life with love, laughter, and a steadfast faith in God. Her faith was an important part of her life. Debbie cherished every opportunity to express her love for the Lord.
Debbie had a wonderful way of embracing life with both honesty and humor. She could make anyone laugh-often laughing at her own jokes-and she wasn't afraid to share her opinions openly. Her refreshing honesty, vivacious attitude and infectious joy lit up every space she entered, whether she was telling a story or sharing multiple ongoing stories at one time.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Matthew Roark; her grandsons, Seth, Austin, and Ethan Roark; her mother, Sharon Courtney; her sisters, Connie McCleese, and Jackie Robertson; and her brothers, Raymond Dulaney, Shawn Dulaney, Marvin Courtney, and Grady Courtney.
Her love for her family was boundless. Debbie adored her daughter Sherry and grandchildren, often bragging about them to anyone who would listen! Her biggest joy in life was when she became a MeMe. She saved every art project the kids ever made for her and made scrapbooks so she could treasure those memories. She loved her kids and grandkids but was always quick to jokingly remind them that her dogs Bo and Hope were the bosses in the house, and she loved them more.
She leaves behind her first and last love, Don Dare, with whom she shared her last eleven beautiful years filled with companionship and devotion. She was blessed to have three amazing bonus children: Misty Robbins, Donald Dare Jr., and Micheal Dare. Debbie cherished her six bonus grandchildren: Mitchell, Matthew, and Melody Robbins; and Donald Dare III (Joey), Franklin Dare (Aaron) and Kathrine Dare, who held a special place in her heart.
She had a special talent for remembering birthdays and loved being the first to call and sing to her loved ones on their big day. Her own birthday was a cherished occasion, and she kept a list of everyone who called to wish her well, proudly sharing how blessed she felt to have them in her life.
Debbie also had a passion for garage sales and thrifting. She loved collecting knick-knacks-especially angels-and took joy in discovering treasures (which her daughter Sherry affectionately reminded her they were "dust collectors") that brought warmth to her home. While she loved the beach, she also enjoyed watching snow fall from the comfort of a cozy window, as her bonus daughter Misty, quickly learned when she went for a visit up north.
Debbie's unique style was truly her own. She loved her high heels which she called her "stillellos"-and would often wear them even with her night pants to keep them from dragging on the ground. It was just one of the many ways she boldly expressed herself.
Debbie was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Phil Hogan; her grandson, Dylan Roark; and her father, Eddie Courtney.
Debbie's legacy is one of fierce love, joyful laughter, unshakable faith, and unforgettable honesty. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire all who were touched by her vibrant spirit.
A celebration of life will be held at Harbor Light Church located at 109 Jones St. Lufkin, TX 75901 on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 2-4pm.
