Debra Ann Lowder, a cherished member of the Woodlawn Community Fellowship Church in Charlotte, passed away on March 27, 2026, at Caromont Regional Hospital in Gastonia. Born on July 10, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, Debra's life was marked by her devotion to family, faith, and the joys of life’s simple pleasures.
Throughout her life, Debra found deep fulfillment in her involvement with the Woodlawn Community Fellowship Church, where she was a valued member of the handbell choir. Her musical contributions brought joy to many and reflected her gentle and caring spirit.
Travel held a special place in Debra’s heart. She shared a wealth of memorable experiences with her husband, Jim, enjoying cruises and visits to some of the most breathtaking places in the United States, including the Grand Canyon, Alaska, Niagara Falls, and Washington, D.C., among other ventures. These travels enriched their lives and created lasting memories treasured by all who knew them.
Debra’s talents extended into her home life, where she was known as an excellent cook whose meals brought comfort and happiness to family and friends alike. Her passion for gardening revealed a green thumb that transformed her surroundings into vibrant and nurturing spaces, a testament to her patient and nurturing nature.
Debra was a Special Education teacher for forty years, where she championed those students with special needs. She taught 20 years in Arlington, Texas and also in Georgia, South and North Carolina. She has a special calling to teach with care and love for her students.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of fifteen years, James “Jim” Lowder; her mother, Janice Stafford; her daughter, Leslie Giles Miller; her stepchildren, Drew Lowder and Abbie Lowder Brown (Dalton); her sister, Elaine Jentry (Hank); and her granddaughter, Shelby Miller. Debra was preceded in death by her father, Richard Stafford.
Debra Ann Lowder’s legacy is one of love, faith, and a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her, her absence leaving a void filled with fond memories and enduring affection. May she rest in peace.
