Declan F. McGrath

Declan F. McGrath age 62, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at his home in Patterson, NY after an extended illness. He was born in the Inwood section of Manhattan on May 8, 1962, the son of Irish immigrants, John J. and Elizabeth (Canning) McGrath.
Declan was raised in Flushing, Queens where he attended St. Kevin's Elementary School and Holy Cross High School (graduated in 1980). He would go on to earn an Associate's Degree at St. John's University in Jamaica, Queens.
In 1991, Declan began his career working as a cable splicer with Verizon in Fishkill, NY. He was a member of Communication Workers of America, Local 1120. He and his wife, Doreen were parishioners of St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel, NY and Declan was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Declan was very proud of his Irish heritage, played the bagpipes and was a member of the Hudson Valley Regional Pipes and Drums Corps. He always loved the month of March as he and his bandmates would participate in St. Patrick's Day Parades up and down the Hudson Valley. Additionally, Declan was also a member of the Putnam County Emerald Society and the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre in East Durham, NY.
On October 6, 1990 he married Doreen McVeigh at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Park Ridge, NJ. In addition to Doreen, he is survived by his sons, Connor and his wife Leighann of Wappingers Falls, NY and his son Liam and his wife, Brianna of Stormville, NY; he also had one sibling, his brother Kieran and his wife, Deborah of New Milford, CT along with three nephews and three grand-nephews.
Declan will be fondly remembered by all who knew him as having a generous and giving spirit as well as possessing a wonderful sense of humor. He was always quick to smile and laugh and if the conditions were right, to sing out an Irish ballad. He was a friend to many and loved by his friends and family. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3 from 4-8 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4 at 10 am at St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel with interment to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Brewster, NY.
