Delores "Dee" Forrest, age 79, of Huron, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Avantara in Huron. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with her family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Welter Funeral Home. A time of sharing and prayer service will begin at 6:30 on Wednesday evening.
Delores Marie was born on December 29, 1944 to parents Vila Joseph and Cecile Irene (Johnson) Gates in Arlington, South Dakota. Delores attended Arlington schools graduating in 1963. She then attended General Beadle College for two years. Delores married Robert Forrest in 1965 in Flandreau, South Dakota.
Delores worked at several places including the theater and restaurants. She worked at a bus factory where she retired in 1979. She loved to play cards and put together jigsaw puzzles. In her younger years she enjoyed knitting, embroidery and liquid embroidery. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was also known as the party coordinator. She loved to plan and organize parties. She would dress up for each occasion and make sure that there were games. She was known as a SPECIAL LADY.
She is survived by her children, Vanya (Mark Harrington) Munce and Russ (Cecille) Forrest, both of Huron; four grandchildren, Darin Munce, Nathan Munce, Emily Forrest and Jackson Forrest; 2 step grandchildren Jason (Molly) Goldammer, Chantel (Ryan) Halperin, seven great-grandchildren, Alydiah, Buckley, Trigger, Kylie, Dirk, Payton and Presley; 3 step great-grandchildren Cashton, Axton & Skylar; siblings, Irene Rans, Keith Gates, James (Maureen) Gates, John (Sharon) Gates; four half-siblings, Kevin (Collen) Gates, Michael Gates, Loretta (Dan) Laabs, and Brent (Gina) Gates; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Sloan in 1977; her parents; brothers Vern Gates, Clinton Gates and half-brother Everett Gates; and her brother-in-law Ike Rans.
