Della Jean Handlon (Stollings), 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Della Jean was born on January 6, 1938, in Yolan, West Virginia, to the late Buster Mark and Anna Marie Stollings. Della Jean was preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Joe and Billy Ray Stollings, sisters, Margaret Cunningham, Hellen Keffer, Carol Whitsit, Mary Lou Stollings, Elizabeth Gray, Rebecca Milam, granddaughter’s, Macey Jones, Shelby Strunk, and grandson, Michael Farr.
Della Jean was passionate about listening to country and gospel music, watching her favorite soap opera - The Young and The Restless, and cheering for her favorite Colts football team to win. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially in the precious moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an inspiration and encouragement to those who knew her. Her nurturing heart and unconditional love left a permanent mark on all who knew her.
Della Jean was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend to many. She is survived in death by her four daughters, Debbie Farr, Teresa Schick (Mike), Kathy Holmes, and Tammy Hulsey Jones, grandchildren, Brian Schick (Sheila), Brad Schick (Kelly), Amy Holmes, Angela Holmes, Ashley Holmes, Melissa Farr (Jimmy), Megan Gray (Roger), Chelsie Strunk, Haley Strunk, and Harley Strunk, twenty-three great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at O’Riley Branson Funeral Service and Crematory (6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, IN 46227) on Thursday, March 13th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm along with additional viewing time on Friday, March 14th from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Funeral Services will begin at the funeral home immediately following at 12:30 pm. Burial will take place at New Crown Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The family would like to thank the Community Hospital Hospice Team for the loving care Della Jean received. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her memory by sharing kindness with others, just as she always did.
