Deloris "Lori" Pfantz, 65, passed away peacefully in her home on December 16, 2024, surrounded by the love and prayers of friends and family near and far. Born July 10, 1959, in Ames, Iowa, Lori grew up in Boone and Nevada, graduating from Nevada High School in 1977. She was the heart and soul of her family.
A devoted mother of three and grandmother of seven, Lori's greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. Her life was one of service. Lori worked hard to ensure the care and love of others. From her work at Story County Community Life Program to her role at Iowa State University, her life's mission was to care for others with compassion and dedication.
When not doting on her grandchildren, Lori enjoyed camping, concerts, traveling, and finding a great bargain. She would never pass up a cup of coffee with a friend, always cherishing moments of connection and conversation.
Lori is survived by her three children, Jamie (Tony King) Pfantz of Durand, WI; Rodney Pfantz II of Nevada, IA; and Kelsi (Billy) Black of Durand, WI; seven grandchildren, Zachary King, Lilly King, Gracie King, Wyatt Black, Noah Black, Kalaya Werlein-King, and Maelori King; her sister-in-law, Bobbie Desher; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Ann Pfantz; and family members Ernie and Lori Whitehead, Ned and Julie "Becky" Prosecky, and Joyce Colstrom. Lori is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who were very important to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Shirley Hiatt; her biological father, Donald Desher, Sr.; her in-laws, Richard and Jean Pfantz; her sister, Diana Stensland; her brother, Donald Desher, Jr.; her nephew, Raymond Desher; and her twin brother, David Desher, who died in infancy.
The family invites you to celebrate the life of Lori on January 18, 2025. A memorial service is planned for 10:00 a.m., with a Celebration of Life Open House starting at 11:00 a.m., both being held at the lower level of the Nevada Community Building (90 I Ave, Nevada, IA 50201).
