Delroy Neil Saunders returned to his heavenly home on September 13, 2025, one day before his 86th birthday. He was born on September 14, 1939, in Ogden, UT, to Delroy Naylor and Leona Christensen Saunders.
Neil attended Weber High School and Weber State College. As a college student, he also attended the Ogden Institute of Religion and participated in its choir, where he met Sandra Wheeler. They married September 5, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple. Later in life he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Logistics from Weber State University.
He was employed at Hill Air Force Base for 37 years, during which time he worked with the F-4 Phantom and F-16 fighter jet programs and had the opportunity to travel to many locations in the U.S., Europe, Egypt, and Israel.
Neil was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man, he served as a full-time missionary in the Swedish Mission. Later he served with his wife Sandra as a service missionary in the Mound Fort Stake and as a volunteer at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. He also served as a home teacher, Elders Quorum President, High Priests Group Leader, Stake High Councilor, Primary Teacher, and Sunday School Teacher.
Neil loved to sing, play piano pieces he learned as a youth, and whistle. He loved baking homemade bread and rolls, which he shared with neighbors and friends. He had a gift for writing poetry and verse. He enjoyed playing basketball and was a big fan of BYU sports.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who were recipients of his thoughtfulness and generosity over the years.
Neil is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra Saunders of Marriott-Slaterville, UT, 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his two sisters, Sharon Wade and Sheila Wood.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 1 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 250 N 1500 W, Ogden, UT 84404.
