Denise Ann, daughter of Lavon Wesley and Harriette Jane (Snider) Burris, was born on August 17, 1956, in Brookfield, Missouri. On October 17, 1981, she married James "Jim" Soptic at the Park Baptist Church in Brookfield.
Denise moved to Kansas City right after high school and started working for Burlington Northern Railroad. She later transferred to Union Pacific Railroad where she worked for 12 years. After her first child was born, she became a stay-at-home mom where she shifted her focus on raising their two children Matthew and Joey. After raising their children, she returned to work at the Holiday Inn as a human resources director.
Denise enjoyed traveling, especially along the East Coast with her family. Cape Cod was a special vacation spot for their family. She enjoyed antiquing, going to road shows and spending time with her family during the holidays, especially Christmas. Everyone who knew Denise knew that she was an avid collector of many different collectable items. Denise took great joy in teaching her grand-daughter Olivia the joys of bargain garage sales and baking her great-grandma's sugar cookies.
Survivors include her husband Jim of the home; two sons, Matthew and Joey Soptic of Kansas City; one grandchild, Olivia Soptic; two siblings, Diane Wright and significant other Walt Olinger of Brookfield, David and wife Pam of Columbia; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, L.D. and Juanita Burris; and a nephew, Aaron Wesley Burris.
