Dennis "Whitey" M. Bausch, 84, of
Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home on August 15, 2025, after sustaining injuries from a fall.
The third child of four, Whitey was born on December 6, 1940, to Carl and Pearl Bausch in Cincinnati. He is survived by his son, Edward (Rebecca), three grandchildren, Elizabeth Reddy (Patrick), Dillon, and Mitchell, sister-in-law, Susan Bausch, and brother-in-law, John Blessing (Lynne) along with countless nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Angie (nee Blessing), son, Jeffrey, as well as his siblings: Kenneth, Gary (Susan), and Gwen (Jim).
As a young boy, Whitey was trained as a mason by his father, instilling a solid work ethic. Whitey utilized his trade throughout his life for both personal and professional projects. After graduating from Roger Bacon High School, he went on to study at Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati, co-owned Carl Bausch and Sons Masonry Company, and retired from Bausch Masonry at the end of 2002.
As a young man, he met and married Angie, the love of his life. Together, they built a lifetime of memories over 59 years, raising two children in the dream home Whitey crafted with his own hands. It was there where one could always find him enjoying his rye whiskey and a cigar while he doled out his bawdy wit; Whitey always left a lasting impression with his lovingly gruff greetings and quips. Although he wore a granite shell on the outside, his heart was made of an uncommon gentleness few were witness to.
Whitey was a fan of pinochle, playing his favorite card game with childhood friends, long into his adult years. He was also a voracious reader, reading thousands and owning over one thousand books in his lifetime, as well as an avid history buff. His love of history was supported by his wife who once bought him a replica Civil War Era cannon. To her utter dismay, one of Whitey's favorite pastimes became setting of said cannon - he never missed an opportunity to do so on the Fourth of July. Along with the cannon fire, one could always see pure joy on his face every time he lit the fuse.
After retiring, Whitey found peace while riding his tractor around the yard and kept himself busy working on crossword puzzles. A paradox of temperament, Whitey was outwardly austere, inwardly kind-a man of quiet compassion masked by grit. His legacy of unfailing loyalty, devotion, and love, along with his razor-sharp, understated humor will carry on through his son and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to please consider a donation to the American Legion Post 513. A funeral Mass will be held at St. James the Greater Catholic Church (3565 Hubble Road,
Cincinnati, OH 45247) on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with internment immediately following at St. James Cemetery. Special condolences may be expressed at www.frederickfh.com
