It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved, Dennis Lee Hardtke, whom passed on Thursday, May 8, 2025. He lived a remarkable life of 87 years. Dennis was born on November 6, 1937 to Edwin and Viola (Lust) Hardtke in Green Bay. He was a man of extraordinary skill, knowledge and kindness. Known far and wide for his spontaneous sense of humor, generosity and ability to fix just about anything. Dad loved and cared for his family, prioritizing us above all else.

Dennis graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1955. Following graduation, Dennis joined the Army in 1956 and worked as a weatherman and as a gun crewman. On September 14, 1963, Dennis married Nancy Ann Wauters. Following in the footsteps of his father, he established himself as a talented carpenter and worked for several local companies before going into business with a partner, Bob Huevelman, forming H and H Construction. His career eventually led him to be a General Superintendent for BP Phillips Construction, where he successfully bid on and directed large projects. He wrapped up his official career working as the Shop Foreman for his very appreciative son at Windows of Wisconsin.

Dennis was an artisan craftsman who possessed a keen attention to detail. He took pride in every project he undertook, whether it be repairing furniture, building large commercial buildings or lending a helping hand to friends and family. He has a reputation for just showing up with all the tools and materials to complete whatever project you were working on without being asked. The neighbors, recognizing his incredible talent and willingness to help, presented him with a plaque that proudly proclaimed his home and shop as "The Hardtke Hardware Store," a testament to the countless repairs and guidance he offered.

He loved spending time with his family that included his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dennis and Nancy loved going on frequent fishing adventures on Lake Michigan, even though she usually out fished him. They also enjoyed the outdoors together, such as heading to the Alaskan Wilderness.

He also enjoyed supporting the local Broadway establishments and playing cribbage with his many good friends. His passion for teaching others and encouraging them to strive for improvement was a hallmark of his character. That included teaching his children, grandchildren, and the entire Soap Box Derby family to have family values and fun together.

His unwavering generosity and willingness to help others endeared him to everyone who knew him. Dennis leaves behind a loving family and a legacy of love, support, and inspiration. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his warm heart, skilled hands, and the countless lives he touched.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children: Amie Fruzen and Carl (Zoomie (Kathryn)) Hardtke; grandchildren: Mikel Ullman, Timothy (Kristina) Ullman and Trisha - Boo (Marcus) Merckx; great-grandchildren: Halie, Peyton and Greyson; siblings: Shirley Zelton, Jerry Hardtke, and Betty (Bob) Dietrich, and his special family friends, Uncle Tom, Al Rimple, and Dale. Dennis is further survived by many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and too many friends and neighbors to count.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Viola Hardtke; his granddaughter, Erica Fruzen (Miss Muffet); his son-in-law, Mark Ullman; and his brother-in-law, Jerome Zelton. Dennis is further preceded by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In honor of his life, we invite all those who knew him to celebrate his memory and the impact he made in our community. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (340 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay, Wi 54301).
