Dennis Leonard Harp, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 4, 2024, at his home in
Howell, MI. Born on July 14, 1949, in Lapeer, MI, Dennis was a man of intelligence, dedication, and a handy nature that endeared him to all who knew him.
Dennis is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of nearly four decades, Denise June Harp, whom he married on November 26, 1986. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories. He was a proud father to his daughters, Michelle (Jerry) Staudenmaier and Jennifer Pokornicki, and a doting grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Jayla Pokornicki. Dennis navigated life's journey with the knowledge that family was his greatest accomplishment and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Patricia (King) Harp, and his brothers, Clifford and Roger Harp. Dennis's legacy of love and strength lives on through his family, who will forever cherish his memory.
Dennis's formal education was a testament to his lifelong love of learning. He earned a bachelor's degree from Lawrence Tech University and another from Oakland University, along with multiple associate degrees. His thirst for knowledge and commitment to excellence served him well throughout his career and personal endeavors.
A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, Dennis served his country with honor during the Vietnam War Era. Following his military service, he dedicated 32 years to General Motors, working in both Pontiac and Lansing. Dennis was also a former member of the American Legion Post 141 in Howell, where his contributions were both valued and respected.
Dennis's interests and hobbies were as varied as they were passionate. He spent 25 years in the antique business, specializing in collecting carnival glass. His travels throughout the United States in search of the next treasure were adventures he relished. An avid enthusiast of the great outdoors, Dennis loved spending time up north, deer hunting in the fall, and reveling in the simple pleasure of cracking a beer around a bonfire with neighbors. He enjoyed working around the yard and watching football and NASCAR. Dennis only wished to have more time to ride his Harley Davidson trike.
A man who loved to spoil his dogs, Rocky and Rosie, and his granddog Jackson, Dennis was also known for his ability to fix anything that needed repair. His family often joked that he always had the right tool for the job, and his "honey-do" list was a source of endless tinkering and improvement around the house.
Though Dennis could be bossy and set in his ways, it was these very traits that underscored his determination to get things right and his unwavering commitment to those he loved. His intelligence and handy skills were matched only by his capacity for love and his generous spirit.
A visitation for Dennis will be held 2-5:30PM Wednesday, July 10, 2024, with a funeral service at 3:30PM at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel, 315 N. Michigan Ave, Howell.
